Nicknamed the Gem State, Idaho offers career training in business and technical fields through some of the most competitive degree programs available. The largest cities in Idaho include Boise, Nampa, and Idaho. Boise, the state capital, has a population of over 190,000.
Idaho's colleges and universities offer degree programs in healthcare, business administration, and criminal justice. Idaho's economy is projected to generate jobs at an annual 2% growth rate through 2014, about twice as fast as jobs will grow nationally.
Major industries in the region include the science and technology sectors, which amount for over 25% of the state's total revenue and over 70% of its exports. Major employers offering jobs to Idaho residents include Micron Technology, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, and AMI Semiconductor. The Idaho National Laboratory, a government lab for nuclear energy research, is also an important part of the eastern Idaho economy.
