Louisiana is a state of opportunity. After Hurricane Katrina, billions of dollars were earmarked for the state through public and private funding. Louisiana now offers businesses the most aggressive tax incentive package in U.S. history. Rich in natural and cultural resources, Louisiana education, job, and career training opportunities are coming back.
Before Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the population of Louisiana reached four and a half million. The largest cities were Baton Rouge, Lafayette, New Orleans, and Shreveport. In 2004, the per capita incomes for these cities were around $30,000. Louisiana's cities look toward bright futures, in part because of the Gulf Opportunity (GO) Zone Act, which helps hurricane-affected businesses rebuild and new businesses grow. Louisiana accounts for 27% of the nation's daily natural gas and oil production, but the state is also moving ahead in the race to be a leader in hydrocarbon production.
