Texas is the second largest state in the U.S., both in land mass and population. It also has a diverse geography, featuring deserts, mountains, and coastlines. Texas has a population of over 23 million people, and is the only state to have three cities (Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas) with populations over 1 million.

Texas is considered by many to be a business-friendly state, with low tax rates and little regulation. Houston and Dallas are two main business centers. Houston is famous for petrochemical and biomedical research, as well as being the home of NASA (hence the famous phrase "Houston, we have a problem"), and Dallas is a main center of information technology. Austin, home to the University of Texas's best-known campus, is known as the Live Music Capital of the World.
